Squirrels

Squirrel Scouts are the youngest section of the Scout Association, they can start from the age of 4 years old until 6 years old. We welcome boys and girls into our squirrel dreys. We meet for one hour each week on Fridays during term time from 16:30 p.m until 17:30 p.m. This is called a Drey Meeting. If you would like to join us to see whether you like Squirrels or to arrange a start date if your child is not quite old enough yet please use the Contact page on our web site. Each week we have lots of fun making friends, playing games, doing all sorts of different crafts and activities and making things. We learn about the world around us and our own community. We have trips out each year, and try to arrange at least 2 occasions.

After a few weeks you will know whether your child enjoys Squirrels, if so you will need to purchase a Squirrel jumper and a necker (the necker isn’t worn until after they have made the Squirrel Promise, this is called Investiture). After Investiture they will then officially be a Squirrel Scout. You will be notified when this will take place – you may wish to be there to take a photo of this proud event! This is when you get the badges required for their sweatshirt and a woggle for their necker. Please click here to see where to sew on the badges. We organiseBetween 6 and 6 and a half they can progress in to the Beaver section. At this time they have a few visits to the Beaver meeting to join in and have a ‘taster’. They attend both Squirrels and Beavers for a few weeks to help make their move easier. Of course when they attend Beavers they realize they already have lots of friends there who have previously moved on from Squirrels to Beavers.
